the gardens of Johnstown Castle in Ireland

For broadband visitors: If you click on most of the photos on this page you will be taken to the large size version of the photo.

The gardens were reinvigerated by the Ireland dept of Agriculture in the mid-20th century which planted a variety of ornamental and fruit varieties on the grounds.

Due to our time constrants, to explore the garden we took the main path, which circles the 5 acre Castle lake. Taking this path with just missed viewing Rathlannon Castle, a tower house ruin from the 1400’s. We also missed the seeing the smaller garden lake.
