Dublin Castle Garden

Ireland's Castles and Manor homes all seem to contain spectactular gardens. The considerable wealth and positions of importance, which the owners of these gardens possessed and wanted to illustrate is easily seen, but only if you enter the gardens and interact with the spaces can you experience these gardens’ special goal.

The gardens were also meant to provide enjoyment to all who entered their protective walls.  The gardens were meant for large numbers of people to stroll through the grounds and be entertained in very elaborate ways.  This is still true today. Visitors are no longer the guests of the lord and lady of the castle, however, thousands of visitors come to smell the flowers and see the newest blooms.

Also, there are the casual cottage gardens with colors spreading throughout.

Allison - I am only a garden novice. I can identify many common plants in magazine pictures and walking through community garden shows, but touring through the Irish gardens makes me want to become a gardener expert, a cognoscenti.  At work, I used the following pictures from our trip as a screen saver on my computer or as photographs at my desk to brighten the modular furniture cubicle walls.  I hope they will do the same for you.
