The gardens were reinvigerated by the Ireland dept of Agriculture in the mid-20th century which planted a variety of ornamental and fruit varieties on the grounds.
Due to our time constrants, to explore the garden we took the main path, which circles the 5 acre Castle lake. Taking this path with just missed viewing Rathlannon Castle, a tower house ruin from the 1400's. We also missed the seeing the smaller garden lake.
